How did all this happen how did this great man get recognized in this way?
The Philmont Staff Association wrote this letter to explain:
Dear Ed,
On behalf of the Philmont Staff Association, it is my privilege to extend to you and your family this invitation to the formal dedication of the new Silver Sage Staff Activity Center at Philmont on the evening of Saturday, August 16. This Magnificent facility, which will become the center of social and recreational activities for more than one thousand Philmonth seasonal staffers each year for decades to come, is named for and will permanently honor your father Boss Sanchez, and the other recipients of the PSA's Silver Sage Award.
We will pay special tribute on this occasion to Boss the the other original recipients of the Silver Sage Award. A special wall in the "Great Room" of the new building has been designated as the permanent recognition site for these individuals. The wall will include a plaque with the names of all recipients and a book with biographical information on each of them. But the most prominent feature on this wall will be the commissioned portraits of Boss and the other original recipients, Chope and Virginia Phillips and Joe Davis.
The dedication ceremony on August 16, 2008 will include a special recognition for Boss and these other original honorees. In Addition, we will be presenting the 2008 Silver Sage Awards to Jack Rhea, Dave Bates, Joe Clay, Bill Spice and the late Steve Fossett. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner in the new Silver Sage Activity Center, followed by the award presentation and dedication ceremonies at 7:00.
I hope that you and other appropriate family members will be able to join us for these ceremonies honoring your father and the other deserving recipients of the Silver Sage Award. Please let me know as soon as it is convenient if you will be able to join us so that we may complete our planning for this event. Of course, if you have any questions don't hesitate to call me. I can be reached at 241-415-8847 most any time. I hope to see you in August.
